Well, cant wait to see the expansion, been watching the dev channel on lotro.com and Looks like we are getting some much needed infusion to the world of Tolkien, some of it not so lore respectable, but should still be fun. I am really hoping they fix the PvMP part of the game, that can be a huge bonus for players that need a break from PvE.

What do you see as the proper way to implement PvP in LotRO? While PvP is common in MMOs, it seems to me to be pretty fundamentally incompatible with Tolkien's universe, which is why they created PvMP in the first place. While there are various factions, and some political intrigue, they wouldn't actively fight one another (outside of the occasional dueling, I suppose)... we're all supposed to be on the side of good against the Shadow.
I can tell you that you hit the nail on the head. You really emphasized the fracture in the LOTRO universe, but your not lookign past your nose.
we're all supposed to be on the side of good against the Shadow.
So you're saying MP should in fact not exist but only be NPC's with AI? Why not make the MP as rich as the Freep side? There are some obvious limitations both in game and physically, just to keep everything sane for the devs, GM's and customers.

But i really think that LOTRO will continue to evolve into a distinct and competitive genre, like "shudder" WoW or Diablo (can't wait for 3). These games being the staples and pioneers in their areas. We all came to LOTRO for different reasons, I don't wish to change the game, I like it the way it is, Improving the game is always a good thing.
Seems to me there's plenty of room for PvP between "Free Peoples" races in Tolkien lore. Isengard (and Sharkey's minions), Dunlanders, Haradrim, Easterlings, the Mouth of Sauron (a Numenorean, IIRC)... Anyone can become a minion of Sauron if they give in to despair. More PvP areas in the style of EVE's "low sec space" could be easily rationalized as the game expands toward Mordor. Or more PvMP battlegrounds (Osgiliath seems a shoe-in). Whether or not its a good idea is another question. Lore may endorse PvP, but it's pretty clear that LotRO is designed to be PvE-centric. It's unlikely PvP will ever get significant resources.
I agree storm... it is unfortunate that on 3-4 servers PvP is really big, the rest it lacks... Maybe they will come out with a PvP beta server like roheryn(sp)??

I still wouldn't trade the PvE for a better PvP exp though...
